You Have Everything Ready to Care for the Baby – But Who Will be Taking Care of You?

Calling all expectant parents! Please join Park Slope Parents and Paige Bellenbaum, LCSW, Founding Director of The Motherhood Center of New York, for a Mental Health Check-In for Expectant Parents.

Pregnancy can be joyous and exciting, and also a very overwhelming identity shift with emotional peaks and valleys. Park Slope Parents and The Motherhood Center have teamed up to help you prepare for your parental journey through the lens of mental health. Join us to learn more about the difference between the “baby blues” and postpartum depression / anxiety, coping skills to ease stress for expectant parents, and how to support one another through this life changing transition.

Paige will guide us through:

  • How to effectively use this time to prepare for the arrival of your baby.
  • Skills and techniques to communicate more effectively with partners and family.
  • What it means to be a “good enough” parent
  • The concept of “both/and” and the annihilation of the word “should.”
  • Division of labor tips, asking for help, and resisting the urge to fix.
  • Love languages and how those can help ease the transition to parenthood
  • How to recognize if feelings of anxiety and sadness are normal or require additional support and treatment.

Becoming a parent is one of the most amazing, beautiful, wonderful things you will ever do. It can, at times, also be the hardest. We can help make it a smooth transition into your new identity as a parent.

Park Slope Parents recognizes that the parenting
journey takes many forms. Whether you are a carrying parent, non-carrying parent, adoptive parent, parent with a surrogate, or single parent, you are welcome here! In particular, we want to encourage dads/partners to join the discussion—your perspective is super valuable and something we need more of.

The Zoom link will be in your confirmation email.

This Zoom will not be recorded.

Paige Bellenbaum, LCSW, is the Founding Director and Chief External Relations Officer at The Motherhood Center of New York. After her first child was born, Paige suffered from severe postpartum depression that nearly ended her life. Once she began to heal, she became committed to fighting for education, screening and treatment for postpartum depression so that no more women would have to suffer silently. She drafted legislation in New York State that was championed by State Senator Liz Krueger, mandating hospitals to provide education on PMADs and strongly encouraging screening of all new and expecting mothers that was signed into law in 2014. Since then, Paige has been an outspoken advocate on the issue of postpartum depression and uses her own story as a tool for change. She has appeared on the Today Show, Good Morning America, NPR, PBS Newshour and in Women’s Health, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, and several other media outlets.
