Enchanted Forest Fairy & Tree Banner Workshop

10/17 @ 11:00am OR 2:00pm
As part of the 2026 'Haunted Forest of Brooklyn' Park Slope Halloween Parade

In this hands-on workshop, led by master puppeteer Theresa Linnihan, transform giant 6-foot tree banners into glowing, magical artwork/costumes and make fairy banners for Park Slope’s biggest autumn celebration! Families will design and build vibrant, light-up tree banners and whimsical fairy banners designed to be carried in the Park Slope Civic Council Children’s Halloween Parade on October 31. Together, our enchanted forest will illuminate the parade route!

Note: If you can't make the Park Slope Halloween parade, you are still welcome to make an enchanted tree or fabulous fairy! (These make incredible Halloween decorations if your kid's heart is set on a different costume.) Parents or Friends can carry the banners, while kids can wear their own costumes, so it's also a win for parents so they don't have to make their own costumes!

*Enchanted Trees will replace the Skeletons this year!*

Workshop Details & Important Info

The Project: Construct and decorate one 6-foot Magical Tree Banner and one Fairy banner equipped with battery-operated lights, turning simple materials into a towering, illuminated puppet. The banners will be very lightweight and easy to carry in the Halloween Parade.

Registration Policy: Each registration covers the materials and instruction for one banner of each. If you have multiple children and would like each child to build and carry their own tree, please submit a separate registration for each banner.

Who It’s For: Perfect for families, kids 6+, and crafters of all ages. Younger children will need an adult partner to help assemble and handle the 6-foot frame. The "building" includes a printing process so old clothes that won't mind the rare paint accident are advised. The other structural component is simply taping the banner to a pole that carries the banner upright.

No prior crafting experience is necessary—we provide all the frames, lighting elements, textiles, and decorating supplies. Space is limited to ensure everyone gets hands-on guidance, so reserve your spot early to light up the neighborhood this Halloween!
