The Legal Aid Society Presents: Celebrate Brooklyn Community Joy Day with Saint James Joy, Pahua, and Puppetmobile

Co-presented with The Legal Aid Society
in celebration of its 150th anniversary, Community Joy Day anchors the season’s civic dimension. Father/son DJ team Saint James Joy gained international popularity during the pandemic by streaming block parties that honored essential workers. Today they create dance experiences that merge music, culture, and community. With Mexico’s Pahua, who blends Latin rhythms with electronic sounds and bold vocal stylings, a lively staging of Pinocchio by Puppetmobile, and a children’s book give-away by Brooklyn Book Bodega.

Saint James Joy is a Brooklyn-based father-son DJ duo composed of DJ Jo Vill and DJ Chill (Chad Vill). Known for their smooth blends and purpose-driven sets, the duo first garnered international attention during the COVID-19 pandemic by producing weekly socially distanced block parties honoring essential workers. Their events quickly became symbols of resilience, community, and joy. Today, Saint James Joy continues to travel and create intergenerational dance experiences that merge music, culture, and communal impact.

Pahua is a Mexican singer, producer, and DJ blending Latin rhythms with alternative electronic sounds. Think vibes like Nidia Góngora, Mitú, or YoSoyMatt, but with fusions that spotlight Latin America’s rich musical heritage.

CityParks PuppetMobile, the oldest continually operating company of its kind in the country, presents free performances and puppet-making workshops in neighborhood parks, recreation centers and schools throughout New York City.
