Please join Park Slope Parents and Education Consultant, Deena Maerowitz, for College Application 101, on Tuesday, June 2nd at 7:00pm.

Are you and your high-schooler talking about college? Whether you're just starting your college search or you've decided on your college list, this presentation is for YOU! Deena will break down the timeline from 10th through 12th grade, to help you know what to focus on and when. She'll cover:

Timelines: What is really important? What do you NOT need to worry about? High school shouldn't be all work and no play!
Demonstrated interest: What does it mean, and how do we show it?
Visits: When? Over the summer? Or in the fall of senior year? What to look for?
When should my kiddo write the essay? What is most important to cover?
When/how/who should they ask for recommendations?

There will be plenty of time for Q and A and follow up resources will be sent to all registrants.

Deena Maerowitz, J.D., M.S.W., has had a multifaceted career, including experience in undergraduate admissions and working in the public policy arena around education. As an educational consultant, Deena advises students through the entire college admissions process, planning both undergraduate and graduate educations. She has helped hundreds of students throughout the country and internationally to navigate the college application process.

Deena graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mount Holyoke College and received her law degree and Master's Degree in Social Work from the University of Connecticut. She has served as a Counsel in the U.S. Congress, where she focused on education issues, and in the private sector for national public interest organizations, such as the Children's Defense Fund. Prior to becoming and educational consultant, Deena was Associate Director of Admissions at Columbia University Business School, where she reviewed hundreds of applications and gained keen insights into what makes a candidate stand out.
