Being an AAPI Parent in the U.S. Meetup/Journal Session @ 2:00PM
About this event
Are you an AAPI parent in Brooklyn?
Join us for a facilitated discussion with Esther Jung, LMHC, NCC helping you connect with other AAPI parents to share experiences and build community. This initial meeting will be a chance to explore the unique joys and challenges of raising children in the U.S. while navigating cultural influences and expectations.
For the first event we ask that folks do the following homework as a launching point for our discussion. Please read this article: The Dissolution of Tiger Moms and the New Face of Asian American Parents
Please take the time to read this article and be ready to engage in a conversation that will help you better understand yourself and your community. Confidentiality of participants will help create a safe and supportive environment.
This meeting is free to PSP members*, and will serve as a demo event to gauge interest and shape future gatherings. We'll discuss potential formats, fees (for future meetings), and other logistics based on participant feedback. This initial meeting is Monday, March 17th from 2:00pm until 3:30pm. If you're interested in connecting with other AAPI parents in a supportive and understanding environment, please join us!
*Non-members are welcome. The non-member fee is $10.00. Anyone who signs up as a non-member and then joins PSP will get $10 off the joining fee :-).

About Esther Jung:
My clients include those who identify as Koreans, within the AAPI and immigrant communities, women undergoing fertility/pregnant/new mom journeys, and/or children navigating social and academic environments. My clients deal with navigating conflicting sub-cultures, painful upbringings that affect their adulthood, complex relationships/identities while attempting to preserve self-love, and/or delayed life goals. I've worked with clients struggling with general anxiety, depression, past/current relational trauma, and emotional turmoil that stem from loved ones (family, social, or romantic) and in the workplace. Bilingual in Korean.
Trained in EMDR, IFS and other pattern identifying modalities, my clients also appreciate the combined work of psychodynamic (look into their past) and CBT (more practical approach). By understanding one's past and applying therapeutic techniques to their present situations, clients found a sense of movement/progress/satisfaction in life.
Growing up as an immigrant learning two languages and cultures, alongside my experience and training, I enjoy partnering with those who struggle with life's various complex identities/situations. Having "unconditional regard" (safe spaces) during difficult times inspire me to train to support others.
