NYC March For Safer Streets
WHAT
NYC Kids March for Safe Streets
WHEN
Monday, March 12th at 6pm
WHERE
Gather at Prospect Park West and 9th Street
After a driver ran a red light and killed two children in Brooklyn, people from across New York City are planning a protest march for safe streets. All are welcome!
Please join us. Bring flowers, and your friends or family. We will embark on a child-led march down 9th Street to the site of the crash.
So far in 2018, three children have been killed by drivers in New York City. Joshua Lew and Abigail Blumenstein, ages 1 and 4, were killed in Park Slope on March 5th. Just five weeks earlier, 13-year-old Kevin Flores was killed in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
NYC Kids March for Safe Streets is inspired by child-led protests against cars in the Netherlands in the 1970s. "Stop the Child-Murder" (in dutch, Stop de Kindermoord) sparked a dramatic cultural shift, and inspired the Netherlands to reclaim cities and towns from cars, leading to a huge decline in traffic fatalities.
